Dex put the broken bits of the flash drive in his pocket after Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) smashed it and told Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) he intended to burn them, but he didn’t.
He now claims that he got sidetracked and put them in a public trash can instead, but did he really do so, or did he give them directly to the FBI?
Dex may have wanted to continue working for Sonny despite Josslyn’s worries and their alleged “love” if Dex is in fact a Feds informant.
Through Josslyn, Dex wouldn’t be able to get close to Sonny, but he might be fabricating his “love” as a front for his true objective.
She kept showing up whenever he tried to spy, and she also caused him to be hung on a meat hook at Pozzulo’s, so he had to take action.

Dex fled the raid at the docks when Carly contacted him, but it might have been planned that way since he couldn’t be spotted without identification.
If someone hadn’t told the squad that raided the docks when the shipment was taking place, Dex would have revealed his identity to other Sonny’s men who were also detained.
Sonny was eating dinner with his daughter Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) at the Metro Court Restaurant when he was simultaneously detained by a different squad of agents.
If no one called them, which could have been Dex, how would they know where he was and when he would arrive?
General Hospital Spoilers: Dex Heller’s Status As An FBI Plant Is The Answer To Everything
Everything, from Dex continuing to work for Sonny in spite of Josslyn’s protests to them obtaining the flash drive and accessing its contents, can be explained by the fact that he is an FBI agent.
The FBI’s computer forensics unit might have needed three to four months to locate the material they required, and Dex’s admission that “he threw it away” was part of his cover was in jeopardy.
Dex may have already been planted to spy on Sonny when Michael hired him to do so while he was still carrying out his revenge.
Dex had been managing Volonino’s Gym in the absence of Chet Driscoll (Chris Van Etten) when Sonny first came across him.
Dex had been in the military as well, although he might have made up the details of his bad discharge as part of his cover when he was hired by Volonino to spy on Sonny.
