Harrison appeared in Trapper John, M.D. on television long before it became a daytime show, and on the surface, it appeared as though the gifted and attractive actor was living the dream. However, in his words, it was more like a nightmare.

How did Harrison escape the vicious cycle that was suffocating him? He entered the renowned Betty Ford Center and put in the effort required to get “back in touch with myself through my sobriety after a few years of hard work.”

After nearly dying and losing everything, including his health and marriage, Harrison reflects that the last 35 years have been his best. Harrison is proud that having overcome his addiction has made him a “better husband, a better father, a better friend, a better actor, and a better human being.” And there were a lot of friends I made when I first started blowing with who passed away.

Harrison and Benard have a fascinating conversation in which the former talks about his upbringing on Catalina Island, his enlistment in the Vietnam War, his upbringing as a Mormon, his eventual renunciation of religion, and his marriage to actress Randi Oakes.

Benard predicted that his co-star, Harrison, who plays an ALS patient on-screen, will be nominated for a Daytime Emmy for his outstanding and moving performance. This podcast is one of Benard’s best ever, so fans will definitely want to listen to it.
