Home and Away’s Dana has experienced nothing but drama since arriving in Summer Bay but actress Ally Harris revealed fans can expect to see a different side to her character

Star of Home and Away Ally Harris has hinted at a significant development for her character Dana Matheson.

Dana, who was wanted by the authorities for narcotics possession, was recently introduced to Channel 5 viewers. Persuaded that Dana was being set up, her sister Harper Matheson (Jessica Redmayne) begged Cash to check into her case while keeping her hidden at Irene’s house.

The soap opera’s Monday, October 30 episode saw Detective Madden (Jonny Pasvolsky) kidnap Dana and imprison her in an abandoned cabin. It quickly became clear that Madden had planned to kill her. Dana managed to survive the attack even though she was given a fatal dose of fentanyl, and Madden and his goon were taken into custody.

Since moving to the Bay, Dana has only encountered drama, but actress Ally assured her that her character will take a more whimsical route. Ally gave the following explanation in an interview with Stuff.nz: “One of the directors likened it to a repertory theatre company, where you stay as Hamlet but in different genres rather than doing different plays and playing different characters.

It’s quite thrilling. I started out on the show performing something akin to a criminal, but now it’s moving towards comedy and other similar genres. It’s really entertaining to observe the same person in several contexts.” The Perth native disclosed that she has agreed to a three-year contract with the serial opera and expressed her desire to further develop her character as Dana.

“Whenever I work, I just bring as much of myself to work as I can,” the soap opera star continued. I’m here to stay for a long time, therefore I want to be as much like myself as possible. Of course, things are different and the script dictates what I have to do, but that’s fantastic because it’s a fantastic opportunity for introspection.

You say, ‘I wouldn’t do it, but why did I do it if I did? How come I would do that? You discover a new aspect of yourself that is capable of doing it.”

Dana was in the hospital getting well, and it seemed like things would be better soon because the allegations against her will soon be withdrawn. However, Rose (Kirsty Marillier) quickly reminded Irene that harbouring a fugitive may result in jail time, thus the same cannot be said for her.

Dropping a truth bomb on Irene, Rose told her that she believes the DPP will want to press charges against Irene, Harper and Cash. And if they do, they could all be looking at a stint behind bars.

During Wednesday’s episode (November 1), Irene worried about facing criminal charges. However, during a conversation with John, Irene admitted she would do it again if she had to as the girls had no other choice.
