Xander’s shift at work takes a sinister turn….
The most fulfilling aspect of becoming a paramedic is saving lives. However, Xander’s work this week endangers his own life.
Xander (Luke Van Os) and Jamie (Hugo Liu), two of Xander’s coworkers, are dispatched to a remote bushland accident in Home and Away.
There doesn’t seem to be anyone around, and the house is deserted.
However, a man who claims to have called for assistance soon approaches the young paramedics. Then, as three men approach them from behind, things take an unsettling turn.
”Xander asks the man to lead them to the patient, but is ambushed by three men wielding bats,” Luke tells TV WEEK.
”They don’t stand a chance.”
The men then raid the ambulance for drugs before taking off.
Severely beaten and injured, Xander calls his sister Rose (Kirsty Marillier) for help.
Dr. Bree Cameron (Juliet Godwin) examines Xander at the hospital while he writhes in agony.
Her face droops as Xander inquires about Jamie.
Rose then breaks the tragic news that his partner passed away there. Anders is devastated.
”’It hurts deeply as Xander asks himself why he survived and not Jamie?” Luke says.
”This eats away at Xander as he struggles with survivor guilt.”
Rose pledges to pursue justice for his passing and will use all means necessary to bring the men to justice.
However, Xander isn’t paying attention because he is sobbing. He has had a difficult few months as he has struggled to cope with the pressure of the job.
According to Luke, “Xander loves helping people and being everyone’s hero as a paramedic, but that obviously has its drawbacks.”
He clearly enjoys his work, but he finds it increasingly difficult.”
