Fans of Home and Away are furious over a new plot that involves one of Summer Bay’s most cherished characters.

The storyline follows Irene, the owner of a diner, as she falls for serial scammer Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo), portrayed by veteran actress Lynne McGranger.

Bronte, a recent arrival to Summer Bay, has been pretending to be unwell and living with Irene.

Bronte’s deception includes her claim that she needs thousands of dollars for “special medical treatment” in Canada, for which Irene has pledged to help gather the necessary funds.

However, Bronte alleges she has been injured when it is revealed that Irene’s diner’s water supply has been tainted by a leaky pipe.

Unexpectedly, Irene, who is filled with guilt, advises Bronte to “sue the diner,” which the Summer Bay mainstay shares with Leah (Ada Nicodemou).

Facebook fans have criticized the evolving plot line for being untrustworthy.

An irate viewer of Home and Away exclaimed, “Who the hell writes this stuff? The storylines are terrible.”

“It is completely illegal to allow Bronte to sue the diner,” they went on.

“Bronte thought it was a great idea, but she will need a full medical checkup, which will find her healthy.”

“The terrible thing is that real-life examples of Bronte exist!” An additional fan updated the thread.

The same watcher noted that it seems strange for Irene to “fall” for a con artist.

In the adored soap opera’s 2021 season, Irene assisted in exposing another con artist, Susie McAllister, portrayed by Bridie Carter.

“The plot is just showing what lengths people will try to go to in order to get free money, but it doesn’t always work out how you want it to,” said one fan in defense of the evolving plot.

But one quick-witted fan did see a significant plot hole.

“Do they really think the insurance company won’t notice they’re the same as the claimant when Bronte puts her address on the form?” The sharp-eyed spectator enquired.

Recently, Lynne gained notoriety for her vicious jab at Robert Irwin following his Golden Logie nomination.

Twenty-year-old Robert is now among the youngest people to be nominated for the esteemed award, which honours the finest in the Australian television industry.

His nomination for an award comes just months after he co-hosted his first TV show, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! with Julia Morris.

Lynne objected to his nomination for Most Popular Personality, claiming he was unexperienced in television.

TV industry veterans Julia, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee, and Tony Armstrong compete against Robert, and Lynne expresses her shock that the rising star is among them.

“I apologize, but old friend Irwin hasn’t been on TV in a bloody minute!” With a cheeky swipe, she wrote, “No disrespect intended.”

Her support for her friend Larry, 59, who shared a humorous conversation he had with his friend on Instagram following his nomination, was evident in her comment.

He posted a screen grab of a text exchange in which his friend wished him luck on his nomination and announced that he would be “voting for Robert Irwin.”

‘I’m a lucky guy to have such supportive friends in this brutal Logies battle,’ Larry joked in the caption, eliciting a supportive response from Lynne regarding his fight for the Logie.

Since her 1993 debut in the long-running soap opera Home and Away, Lynne has been a fan favorite.
