The actor reflected on filming Māori funeral scenes.

Ethan Browne, the star of Home and Away, has spoken out on the value of appropriately depicting Mori culture on TV and shared his link to the Ari Parata killing plot.

Browne (who plays Tane Parata) addressed filming the Mori burial scenes (tangi) for his on-screen sibling and how it had a special meaning to his own family in an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I had the good fortune to sing one of my uncle’s songs just as he had died away. It’s a lovely Mori song. It was quite appropriate “Browne remarked.

Because tangi is significant in Mori culture, it hit home quite a bit and seemed quite real.

The actor went on to say that it was crucial for the crew to film the tangi respectfully by enlisting the help of cultural consultants.

“[Accurately representing it] was crucial. We wanted to have every aspect right, down to the type of clothing we would wear and having water available at the door for hand washing “The actor kept going.

It was challenging since there was so much pressure to complete the task correctly.

Rob Kipa-Williams’ character Ari Parata left the serial opera after sadly learning that he had an extremely uncommon kind of cancer. Kipa-Williams expressed his gratitude for the show for embracing Mori culture after his final moments on it.

“This venerable Ozzie TV program took chances. I will always be proud of the sequences that were filmed since we worked as a true team to co-create Mori cultural tales. I’m hoping this creates space for more variety “said he.

“I appreciate everything you did, Ariki Wiremu Parata; you gave me a lot to learn. I will miss you.”
