For more than 30 years, she played Irene Roberts in the venerable soap opera Home and Away.

However, Lynne McGranger has just disclosed a significant new position she has accepted with Cancer Council.

The 70-year-old actress has joined an initiative to promote bowel cancer screening testing.

According to Lynne, the participation rates for colon cancer screening tests are only about 40%, which is appalling.

The test just takes two minutes, is easy to do, hygienic, and might potentially save your life.

She expressed gratitude that her initial screening last year resulted in a clean bill of health.

Lynne said that before to her father’s death in 2005, she had not given much thought to her health.

I stopped smoking, and it was a really significant deal for me. I began to become healthier and fitter at that point, and I now work out three to four days per week, she claimed.

It follows the recent revelation by veteran performer Lynne about her departure from Home and Away.

The actress has outlined her exit strategy from the soap opera, and she intends to go out on top.

Despite the fact that she has won over the nation with her portrayal of the motherly figure, Lynne wants a dramatic ending to the program.

She stated to Stuff.co.nz in March that she wanted to go with a “biggest bang” and “most dramatic exit.”

“I want to be lost at sea, or I want to die a really long, sad death with everyone crying and wailng around me.”

Or Irene might drown at sea, with no one ever finding her corpse, a memorial service held, and then she might return to town.
