OPINION: Coronation Street viewers last saw Lauren Bolton on the cobbles back in February before she mysteriously vanished from Weatherfield.
Where is Lauren Bolton, played by Cait Fritton, has been a constant concern on my mind for the past few months, just like it has for all Coronation Street viewers. I do not think the teen is dead, despite the fact that the authorities are trying to link Roy Cropper (David Neilson) to a murder, which is genuinely hurting the nation’s heart.
Let’s look at some facts about Lauren before she disappeared from the cobbles and some clues as to where I believe she could really be. ITV fans will know she has had her fair share of issues since making her debut, especially as her dad was part of a far right extremist gang.
Lauren made it obvious that she intended to try and forge a fresh route for herself when she returned to the cobbles last year. But the trouble began when she chose to snap explicit photos for O-Vids while she was still a minor.
I think this was the start of Lauren’s plot since it allowed anonymous males to communicate with her from all over the world. It’s time to investigate the matter further, and the Weatherfield Police should begin doing so before attempting to prove someone’s death without sufficient proof.
First, while telling a few people on the cobbles, Lauren began to see an unknown man. This man began bestowing expensive items and gifts upon Lauren, giving the impression to onlookers that he was wealthy and possibly older than her.
Second, Lauren regrettably suggests the teen may have been aiding others with more evil intents by offering herself to Roy not too long ago in exchange for his assistance.
Then there are the ugly marks on her shoulders that became visible as she began to get close to Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll), which made it clear that she was dealing with a violent guy at the time.
Lauren had made several attempts to end her relationship with this individual before to her abduction, but they had made it plain to her that this would not be possible.
Since they knew exactly where she lived, this individual even showed up at her apartment after she attempted to break things up. In my opinion, this suggests that they were close and that the audience would recognize them from the street.
Several names, including Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), Max Turner (Paddy Bever), and even recent arrival Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn), have been circulating online as potential candidates.
But one name has come up more than others, in my opinion: Nathan Curtis, the terrible abuser of Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) played by Christopher Harper.
When we last saw him, he was being sent to prison for the teen-age rape of Bethany. The fact that Bethany came back to Weatherfield at the same time as Lauren started having problems with males on the internet could not be entirely coincidental.
Another connection that appears too coincidental is that Nathan has spent the last few years in prison, which is also where Lauren’s dad is right now.
Lauren and Bethany share similar traits, both physically and personality-wise, which could have drawn Nathan to the teen in the first place. However, here is where I think things get complicated when it comes to Roy’s involvement as he was the last person to see her.
