Steve McDonald of Coronation Street hasn’t been in a relationship since his wife Tracy Barlow left him, but according to next week’s spoilers, things could be improving.
Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) of Coronation Street has been living a life of self-pity ever since his wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) left him to start a new life in Spain with former footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). His efforts to re-enter the dating scene have not been effective.
But according to official ITV episode teasers for next week, his love luck might be set to change because of his father-in-law Ken Barlow (William Roache). After his terrifying fall, he needs specialized care, but his family reassures him that it will be provided.
Nevertheless, despite their claims, Steve employs Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) and pretends to Ken that she is a certified caregiver employed by an agency in an effort to reduce costs. Soon after, Cassie tells Ken the truth, admitting that she has no training and that she merely came in to assist and save the family money.
Even though Cassie lies to Ken, she manages to win him over by telling him that she was truthful with Steve from the beginning and never pretended to be qualified. When she shows up for work at No. 1, Ken is willing to give her a chance, and Steve enjoys telling her that her first assignment is to clip Ken’s toenails.
Despite their unlucky beginning, Ken and Cassie quickly became friends, and when Ken proposed taking lunch, Steve became enraged. His daughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is aware of this and finds it hilarious how much Cassie irritates her father.
She tells him that there seems to be a spark between them and that he is hiding his feelings for her.
Amy is even more entertained when Steve adamantly denies that there is any spark between them.
He should be cautious because on a previous Rovers’ Return speed dating night, Cassie turned him down.
But Cassie’s actress Claire acknowledges that she would really like to see the two of them together.
“We saw the spark between them at the speed dating and it didn’t get off the ground,” she admitted.
“But they are good for each other. They are similar ages so they like the same things.
“Even in real life Simon and I sit and chat so much because we like the same movies and know all the same songs.
“There is something of a familiarity coming from the same era,” she said.
