Those who watched said, “Enough is enough.”

Fans of Emmerdale believe that after Tom’s “pretty sick” deed in Monday night’s episode, the writers had “gone too far.”

Fans of the ITV soap opera are aware that Belle previously broke up with Tom following several months of his aggressive and domineering actions. In a last-ditch effort to worm his way back into their married home, he deliberately ran over their dog Piper in Friday night’s episode.

Viewers saw heartbreaking images in tonight’s (Monday, August 19) episode as vet Tom informed Belle that Piper would not be saved, even after he and Rhona worked nonstop all night. Although Lydia Dingle, who was caring for Piper at the time of the incident, claimed responsibility for the tragedy, Tom stated he preferred to inform Belle directly.

Belle wept, calling Piper “the best friend she could ever wish for and she loved her so much,” when Tom relayed the news to her and begged to see the dog one last time before she was put to die. In closing, she said to Piper, “sleep tight, my precious girl.”

Even Tom cried when he put Piper to death, telling Belle that she had been the “best mummy.” After claiming that he “couldn’t handle the rest of the day at work,” Tom used his chance to walk Belle home and warn her about the importance of being “aware and mindful” of her mental health in the wake of Piper’s death. He also suggested that it would be preferable if someone else stayed at the house during this difficult time.

Belle figured out that he must have been the one who ran her over, so while Tom thought it would be his chance to get her back, everything fell apart.

Belle, who was informed by Rhona that he would “often use Piper against her,” accused Tom of running Piper over during the conversation. Even though spectators were aware of the true events, Tom vehemently disputed everything and claimed it was all in her head.

Rhona, who was on Tom’s side, attempted to talk Belle out of it but informed Tom that she would “never forgive him.” Later in the show, Rhona told Tom that she finally understood how hard it must have been for him to live with Belle and reassured him that she knew how much he loved Piper.
Tom might have been grinning as he took pleasure in the fact that no one took Belle’s charges seriously as she expressed her worries to Lydia on Tom’s behavior.

The disturbing sequences caused viewers to declare that the writers had “gone too far” and called Tom’s actions “pretty sick.” @emmdeeaitch commented on X, the former name for Twitter, saying: “This is really pretty sick.” #emmerdale

“Really s*y, exploitative storyline with the dog,” tweeted @Ockeghem1497. Maintain your style, #emmerdale,” and added: “@allieakalulu66 I don’t sure I have the emotional stability to watch #Emmerdale tonight, haha! I wish this tale hadn’t involved the dog!

“Please #emmerdale get rid of this tom character,” tweeted @Bufferb2012. “Enough is enough,” said @meamaddison, who also said, “It makes me sick how any man can do this, #Emmerdale.”

@Mel_Navan wrote: “The #Emmerdale writers have gone too far with this storyline…,” and @PipWadsworth tweeted: “Gone too far now. As if life wasn’t depressing enough. Please can we have a cheerful, happy storyline for a change. #emmerdale.”

@hanwillll added: “This storyline needs binning now. It’s getting f* ridiculous #Emmerdale.”
