Drama Queens, which starred a number of well-known actors, will not be recommissioned, hence executives have decided not to bring the show back for a second season.
Drama Queens, the reality show that let viewers into the personal lives of their favorite soap opera stars, has officially announced that a second season will not be coming, according to ITVBe.
On April 10, 2024, the program had its premiere, starring well-known characters from Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale, such as Lucy Fallon, Roxy Shahidi, Amy Walsh, and Jorgie Porter.
Despite the stars opening up about their personal struggles on camera, ITV bosses have revealed that the show, produced by Lime Pictures, will not get a second run. A source told The Sun on Saturday, September 7, that Drama Queens had become “quite difficult and expensive to make”, particularly as the soap stars had to balance filming with their busy schedules.
“Luring the talent to open up about their personal lives was costly and they all had busy filming schedules for their various acting jobs and family commitments,” the insider explained. “Plus the soap fanbase didn’t translate to automatic audiences as reality viewers tend to be quite a younger demographic. In the end producers decided it was best to leave it as a one-off series and focus on new projects and trial new formats.”
A spokesperson for the broadcaster reinforced their position, stating: “There are no current plans for a second series of Drama Queens but the first series is available for viewers to enjoy on ITVX, and we wouldn’t rule out revisiting the show in the future.”
This past year, Drama Queens delivered noteworthy scenes, including an intense spat involving Jorgie Porter who found herself in a heated disagreement with her partner Oliver Piotrowski regarding the upbringing of their infant son, all of which was captured on film.
As well as this, Jamelia also shared her decision to leave Hollyoaks during the show, despite not being one of the 20 characters axed in the shocking cut. She said on the programme: “Hollyoaks was like a plaster on a very deep wound.
“But, I know I am not healed. I haven’t done the healing work that needs to be done. I can’t do it while focusing on such a demanding job on top of the most demanding job of being four peoples’ mum.”
She added: “I have loved my time at Hollyoaks. Every single second. But I know I have been blocking away something and I haven’t dealt with a lot of things and I have to take that time.”
