On Monday, seven years after leaving the army, ex-soldier Nicholas Cartwright will make his television debut on Channel Seven’s Home and Away.

The 33-year-old will portray Senior Constable Cash Newman, the newest officer in Summer Bay.

Many veterans find the process of leaving the Australian Defence Force and returning to civilian life to be quite challenging, and I was no exception. He said to The Daily Telegraph, “I didn’t want to go back to a 9-5 job.”

After leaving the military, Nicholas enrolled in an acting course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

Before I joined the army, I was often in creative spaces, and I simply naturally gravitated back there, he said.

Getting into character, according to Nicholas, “makes you feel a certain way, and playing a cop on the program is just the best.”

The long-running drama’s latest trailer shows Nicholas’ character, Cash Newman, a police officer, looking into the finding of a woman’s body.

Patrick O’Connor’s character Dean Thompson worries that it’s his half-sister Mackenzie Booth (Emily Weir), who revealed to him that she had reached her breaking point after a heartbreaking breakup with Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams) and an ectopic pregnancy.

After his sister interrupted a house party at the Parata property, Dean expresses concern to Cash that he has a “bad feeling” about the discovery.

A new gym employee discovers Justin Morgan (James Stewart) at the beach with bloody hands, and he soon finds himself in trouble.

His girlfriend Leah Patterson-Baker (Ada Nicodemou) is occupied with finding con artist Susie McAllister (Bridie Carter), who defrauded them of their life savings, while he has recently struggled with a painkiller addiction.

Before being taken into custody by Cash at his home, Justin is subsequently seen exchanging sharp words with the gym’s boss Tane Parata (Ethan Browne).

Arriving soon: The long-running drama’s latest trailer has Nicholas’ persona, police officer Cash Newman, looking into the finding of a woman’s body.
