The studio blamed scheduling conflicts – but Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde has revealed the real reason Shia LaBeouf was replaced by Harry Styles.
Shia LaBeouf was reportedly originally chosen to play Harry Styles in Don’t Worry, Darling, but had to be released to secure his safety during filming, according to Olivia Wilde.
The film’s director, 38-year-old Wilde, revealed to Variety that Styles, 28, was originally intended to play Jack, the shady husband of Florence Pugh’s suburban housewife Alice, but the rock star had already embarked on a world tour.
LaBeouf, 36, was so cast in its place. However, Wilde claimed he was fired by early production in 2020, according to the New York Post.As someone who greatly admires his work, Wilde said, “His process was not conducive to the ethos that I seek in my shows.” “I personally don’t think it is conducive to the best performances,” she said. “He has a technique that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy.”
The studio said LaBeouf had schedule issues at the time of his departure, but Wilde persisted on her “no a**holes policy.” She was fortunate that Styles’ tour was postponed due to the Covid epidemic, freeing up his schedule to appear in the movie.
Later in 2020, LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs sued him for allegedly abusing her emotionally, sexually, and psychologically.
After this incident, a lot of his behaviour was revealed, which deeply disturbed Wilde.
“A tremendously supportive energy was what we really needed for our movie. My top objective was making Florence feel safe and comfortable since I knew that I would be asking her to be in extremely vulnerable positions, especially with a movie like this.supported.”
Jack and Alice feature in multiple private scenes together, as shown in the Darling trailer.
She remarked, “I think the best approach to get individuals to perform their best job is to create a safe, trusting environment. “My duty to the cast and the production is ultimately to keep them safe. I have to do it.
I find myself simply really wishing him health and progress because I believe in restorative justice,” Wilde continued of LaBeouf.
Styles and Wilde had been dating for more than a year; their on-screen romance finally resulted from Styles’ casting.
Pugh, 26, criticised the attention on Styles’ sex acts in the sultry video earlier this month.
“It’s not why we do it when it’s reduced to your sex scenes or watching the most famous man in the world go down on someone. In a Harper’s Bazaar profile, the British actress declared, “I’m not in this business for that.
She stated that such discussions were inevitable when hiring the most well-known pop star in the world.
“That’s just not the topic I’m going to talk about because [this movie] is better and broader than that. And the creators are more and better than that.
