On numerous occasions, General Hospital’s Adam Huss has filled in for Nikolas Cassadine. He has shown admirable ability to step into the role on short notice and advance the plot. But in his most recent performance, Huss added even more hues to his portrayal of the regal and powerful Cassadine heir.
Adam Huss – Performer of the Week
When Austin (Roger Howarth) returned to his isolated home and discovered a self-assured Nikolas packed and prepared to leave, he was in for a surprise. The good doctor quickly understood that he couldn’t persuade Nik to change his mind because the prince didn’t ask to leave; instead, he simply informed Dr. Gatlin-Holt that he was leaving.
Austin tried to question Nikolas about a few things in an effort to at least postpone his departure. Although Nik provided some details, Huss’ responses to Austin’s questions only served to support Nik’s position. Nikolas had no plans to visit Ava (Maura West) or return to Port Charles.
Austin questioned how Nik was going to travel to Europe, but when have minor concerns like finances and passports become obstacles for Cassadines? “Austin,” scoffed Nik. “I use aliases and multiple accounts. It is easy to gain access to them. With that delivery, Huss embodied what it means to have Cassadine money on your side.
Nik, demonstrating how in charge of his next move he is, responded that he was only going to make sure that Laura was aware that her son was alive when Austin asked if he was going to contact his mother. Austin was continually caught off guard throughout these scenes thanks to Nikolas. Austin was not going to change his mind under any circumstances.
Austin was informed by Nikolas that his son Spencer (played by Nicholas Alexander-Chavez), who is vying for the family fortune, is a Cassadine. A guarded Austin asked, “Meaning?” Nikolas continued, “I don’t expect him to behave any differently toward me than I would behave toward someone who stands in my way. Huss kept looking at his scene partner while having Nik add a small facial movement to send the message that you won’t be stopping me to Austin.
Nevertheless, Austin considered the possibility of Nik spending one final night with him. The cunning doctor, however, was aware that his former charge had already made up his mind. As he left the room, Nikolas said cryptically to Austin, “It’s time for a family reunion.” Let’s hope that Adam Huss and the GH audience will also be reuniting soon!
