Sasha Gilmore Corbin, the widowed protagonist on General Hospital, is being held captive in a sanitarium by Gladys Corbin and Dr. Montague, and it seems as though there is no end in sight to the suffering and torture she is enduring. The same can be said for Sofia Mattsson, who has once again been named GH’s Soap Hub Performer of the Week.

Even though Sasha had occasionally used drugs, she was aware that she no longer belonged at Ferncliff. She had heard that Dr. Montague (Darin Toonder) wasn’t looking out for her best interests. Sasha, who was always creative, attempted to pay her way out of the sanitarium. “I am very wealthy. Anything you want, I will pay you. Sasha pleaded with her doctor to let her go. As if her character suspected that her bad doctor wouldn’t bite, Mattsson gave those lines a sense of panic and a knowing tone.
When Dr. Montague gave her a drug injection, she exclaimed in agony with such a loud cry of frustration and helplessness. Yes, of course, we are aware that this is all fiction, but Mattsson gives her character such likability and vulnerability that it is actually upsetting to see Sasha being mistreated in this way. The next time Dr. Montague behaves unethically, we almost want to reach through the screen and rip that syringe out of his hand. (Toonder deserves praise for portraying such a vile doctor.)
Can you blame Sasha for being surprised when she realized Cody (Josh Kelly) was in the same room as her? She jumped back in terror. She must have been wondering how Cody had gotten in to see her. And how would he react if she attacked him while she wasn’t rational?
Sasha gave Cody a chance to catch up once she had partially collected herself. She recalled defending herself because she believed Cyrus (Jeff Kober) was pursuing her. Cody assured her that she didn’t need to worry about that at this time. Then, Mattsson decided to give Sasha hope that Cody might actually be there and willing to assist her.
Are you sincere? Are you sure you’re here? Sasha spoke while shaking. Sasha has had a difficult journey, so hearing her express relief that Cody would come to her aid was comforting.
With his hand outstretched to Sasha, Cody continued to bring her back to the present. She seized it. Unfortunately, right on schedule, Dr. Montague observed them attempting to leave the room. Cody quickly realized that Gladys (Bonnie Burroughs) and Dr. Montague were working together, but a perplexed Sasha wasn’t sure what to make of it. Dr. Montague and Cody exchanged blows, but Cody was no match for Dr. Montague. While Cody and Sasha fled, he overpowered the unethical doctor and left him bound and gagged.
Cody (with help from Sam) has hopefully helped Sasha leave Ferncliff in her wake. The wonderful performances Sofia Mattsson gave us, however, will not be quickly forgotten.
