For more than two decades, Ryan Maloney has played one of Neighbours’ longest-running characters.
Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi’s adventures on the show appear to have piqued the interest of faithful fans, as the fictional character was recently voted the most favorite by viewers.
Thousands of fans voted for Toadie to be at the top of the list in a survey conducted by Australian soap fansite Back to the Bay earlier this week.
Other well-known characters such as Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) and Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) came in second and third place, respectively.
Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) and Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) were also on the list at number eight and nine, respectively.
Surprisingly, Charlene Robinson, Kylie Minogue’s renowned girl-next-door figure, came in tenth place.
Ryan initially appeared on Neighbours on January 23, 1995, and has since been a regular cast member.
In 2019, he spoke to The Herald Sun. He stated he despised the famous mullet he wore when he was younger.
‘I despised that hair, but it was how I got the job,’ he explained.
‘I had previously auditioned, and they called and asked, “Is your hair still the same?” “Great, you’ve got the job,” they exclaimed after I answered yes. ‘Don’t slash it.’
And the actor, who now has his hair trimmed short, claims he was forced to keep the look for much longer than he would have preferred.
‘I really wanted to cut it, but the producer insisted on keeping it, and he obviously knew what he was doing because it took on a life of its own,’ he told the daily.
The actor has been a part of Neighbours for more than 25 years, and his hard work has paid off with a Logie nomination in 2019.
He’s still on the show, which airs on Peach 10 at 10 p.m.
