More than a year after making her last, subdued appearance, Lorna Laidlaw, a cast member of Coronation Street, has reportedly left the role of Aggie Bailey.

The 61-year-old actress, who is best known for her eight-year stint as receptionist Mrs. Tembe on the BBC One soap opera Doctors, joined the long-running ITV soap in 2019 to play Aggie, the matriarch of the first regular black family in the serial.

She returned for a storyline that saw Aggie and husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) confront their fall from grace after a protracted absence during the COVID pandemic.

The pair had relocated from affluent Alderley Edge in Cheshire to the terraced backstreets of Weatherfield. Unable to face their former neighbors, they chose to switch residences with Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine).

Exactly three years after making her debut, on June 12, 2018, Aggie made her final appearance. At the time, it was revealed that she had moved to Birmingham to take care of her ailing aunt.

Ed’s gambling addiction returned while she was gone, and he nearly lost their house after a poorly executed robbery in which he sold all of the family’s Christmas gifts.

Following their request to tell their mother, Michael (Ryan Russell) and Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) made the announcement that they had split up earlier this year after returning from Birmingham.

Given that Lorna appears to have signed a contract to appear in the Channel 5 drama The Good Ship Murder, it appears that any hopes of a reconciliation are now out of the question.

Among the talented cast of the show are several soap opera stars, such as Ross Adams from Hollyoaks and Catherine Tyldesley, Claire Sweeney, and Shayne Ward from Coronation Street.

A source told The Sun, “Lorna is an extremely talented actress and it’s a great gig to land.”

“It’s a really great atmosphere to work in, the show films in beautiful Malta, and the cast and crew are a close knit group.”

Aggie will most likely be stuck in Birmingham for eternity since it probably should have played a significant part in the ongoing Corrie plot that saw Dee-Dee get engaged to killer Joel Deering (Calum Lill).
