Laurel Thomas’s (Charlotte Bellamy) life was hanging in the balance in tonight’s dramatic episode of Emmerdale (3rd July 2024), as she suffered a sudden heart attack.
Things have been strained between Laurel and her husband Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) recently, after he was forced to confess to her that he blackmailed his biological father Amit Sharma (Anil Goutam) into signing over his half of The HOP, after learning that Amit had murdered his own brother, Jai’s beloved adoptive father Rishi (Bhasker Patel).
This also meant that Jai had deliberately left half-brother Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) without his stake in the business, and Laurel was furious that Jai had returned to his conniving ways.
While Jai attempted to sneak past Laurel by moving around the home, her stepdaughter Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) noticed the tension and Laurel refused to disclose what had sparked the argument.
As all of this was going on, Laurel began to complain of what she believed to be indigestion and threatened to tell Suni what Jai told her that day, or else.
Later, after discovering from Nicky Miligan (Lewis Cope) that Suni was devoting his time to working with Jai and getting to know him, Jai interrupted Laurel’s quiet contemplation in the chapel and told her that he just couldn’t bring himself to reveal the truth.
Jai was called “shameless” by Laurel, who also said he never seems to do the right thing. Jai said that Laurel relied too much on the religion to make her feel connected to her late first husband, Ashley Middleton. Laurel yelled at Jai to go after he pointed out that Ashley had made his own errors, but Jai eventually gave in and said he would talk to Suni.
Once more, Laurel was alone herself when she fell to the ground and fought to sound the alarm. Fortunately, Gabby discovered her and phoned for help.
Jai was in the process of trying to find the right words to confess everything to Suni when he received a frantic call from Gabby, who told him what had happened to Laurel.
Jai hurried to the ambulance outside, where Rebecca Sarker’s character Manpreet Sharma stated that Laurel’s condition was probably caused by a heart attack.
Jai was frightened that Laurel wouldn’t make it and was disturbed by the thought that they could never see each other again, despite Suni’s attempts to reassure him. Jai sent Gabby to be with Laurel. How will Laurel fare?
