Doreen Mantle, an actress best known for her work on Coronation Street and One Foot In The Grave, passed away at the age of 97, according to her agent.

Doreen Mantle is most known for her work on Coronation Street and One Foot In The Grave, where she played a character connected to Graeme Hawley’s portrayal of the infamous serial killer John Stape.

From 2010 to 2011, the actress played a major role in the ITV soap opera and played a key role in John assuming the identity of her son Colin Fishwick.

John had to assume Colin’s name to reenter the teaching profession after being disqualified owing to his past convictions because Colin had taken off for Canada.

After learning of John’s activities, Colin came to Weatherfield and got into a fight, which resulted in his death and John buried his body beneath the Underworld factory.

Joy visited Coronation Street some months later to learn what had happened to her son.

She made friends with Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine), who was aware of the identity theft but was unaware of the death, and she listened to Joy talk of her own terrible health and her longing to meet Colin once more before she passed away.

After a few days, John informed her he had heard from Colin, who had returned to Canada, and that he didn’t want to see his mother ever again in an effort to get rid of her.

While Joy was disappointed by the news, she was relieved that he was still alive and healthy, letting John and Fiz to pursue their own lives.

Soon after, when the couple was visiting their preterm daughter Hope Stape (Isabelle Flanagan) in the hospital, Joy revealed that she only had a few weeks to live. This is when the two of them came into contact.

John visited Joy to keep her company because he felt bad about Colin’s passing; nonetheless, he ended up doing odd jobs for her.

John gave her a lifeline of hope by giving her what was purported to be Colin’s cell phone number for her to leave messages on, but in truth, this was his own number, as he felt more and worse for her sorrow at never seeing her son again.

This was John’s undoing since she called Colin’s number when John was performing good deeds at her house and heard John’s own phone ring.

Once more, he made excuses by saying Colin would return that day, but eventually he made the decision to tell Joy the whole truth.

Unfortunately, the news aggravated her angina, and John had to cover her mouth to prevent her from sobbing in agony when nosy next-door neighbour Clifford (Dave Dutton) came over.

John left the house after this action resulted in the old lady’s death and later returned after seeing the ready meals and soup he had purchased for the elderly woman had been left behind.

When he returned at night, Clifford interrupted him as he peered through the dimly lit windows.

Character was given credit for dying in the previous episode when her body was discovered on January 13, 2011.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved client and much-loved stage, screen, and radio actress Doreen Mantle, aged 97,” her representative said in a statement announcing her passing today.

She passed away quietly at home. Her two kids, four grandchildren, and one brother are left behind.
