Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) will soon be back on Coronation Street, but she will be in a totally different setting than when we last saw her.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) believes that Cassie, his biological mother, died when he was a toddler. Cassie has been living with her mother Evelyn (Maureen Lipman), who is quitting narcotics cold turkey after nearly dying from an overdose.
Claire Sweeney told us that she was enjoying portraying such a nuanced character, and that she is now determined to get back in touch with her son and get to know her grandkids.
Playing a character with so many facets is fantastic and gratifying, she thought. She shares her mother’s feistiness but also her mother’s weakness.
She also has her love for Tyrone and the novelty and wonder of becoming a grandmother. She also enjoys throwing parties, and there is a particular incident in the Rovers where she really gets loose and creates some problems.

Another well-known Corrie figure that fits that description is Abi Franklin. Abi, a former addict, has experienced a great deal of turmoil, including the loss of her son Seb (Harry Visinoni).
Abi made a series of poor choices as a result, including sleeping with Imran (Charlie De Melo) and getting pregnant. Before Abi (Michael Le Vell) ultimately achieved stability and happiness in her relationship with Kevin Webster, there was a bitter custody fight for her son Alfie.

According to Claire Sweeney, Abi and her character have a lot in common.
“I believe Cassie and Abi will be drawn to one another naturally.” She said, “And I think it might take a little bit of a twist and a turn in an unexpected way.”
Cassie may meet Abi when she looks for employment at the garage. Michael Le Vell has been a pleasure to work with, and Cassie has some fantastic scenes with Kevin as she wants to work in the garage, Claire informed us.
Could Cassie and Abi, who both have a history of drug usage, push each other farther down the wrong path or encourage one another? Although Claire is keeping the outcome a secret, she did caution that her character’s attempt to abstain from drugs would not be simple.
She remarked, “She is determined to try her hardest to stay clean, but at the end of the day she is an addict.” Addicts occasionally stray from the path. She would exert every effort but the disease prevents her from doing so. It won’t be easy for any of them, and she can’t always manage it.
