Every happy occasion for Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) in Coronation Street is laced with regret as the character gradually accepts the idea that his motor neurone disease will ultimately claim his life.

A woman named Shelley, who also has MND, was introduced to Paul in a recent episode of the ITV serial opera.

Paul first struggled to talk to her because he couldn’t get past the fact that Shelley, who is in a wheelchair and has a PA named Cags, symbolised the way his life will soon be.

Paul will soon become aware of the weakening of his right leg, which will serve as another warning that his health is failing.

Billy (Daniel Brocklebank), who has returned home with a walking assistance for Paul, notices the struggle as well.

Billy proposes a wheelchair when Paul acknowledges that getting acclimated to the walking aid may take some time, but Paul is appalled at the prospect.

The following week, Paul and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) had a birthday celebration at the Bistro.

When Paul does arrive, though, Gemma detects his apprehension about the number of patrons in the establishment and advises that he take Bryn to the precinct’s park.

Paul tries to pursue Bryn when he flees but ends up falling to the ground.

Paul grudgingly acknowledges that it might be time to look into purchasing a stair lift after being assisted into the flat by Billy and Todd (Gareth Pierce).

As the week comes to a close, Paul embraces Pride and decides to participate in fancy dress, but he is shocked when Billy and his occupational therapist agree that it’s definitely time for a wheelchair.

Billy witnesses three drag queens assisting an inebriated Paul to exit a taxi and be carried inside the Rovers following an argument.

Paul becomes upset as everyone rallies behind him and he realises that this will be his final Pride.
