At the moment, Anna is operating essentially alone on GENERAL HOSPITAL. She is therefore unable to discuss Dante’s health with him or Sonny, and since her relationship with Valentin is over, she is also unable to discuss it with him. For this reason, Anna eventually turns to John “Jagger” Cates in order to vent!
She remained frosty toward John at first, even after he and the FBI stormed into Port Charles and took over the investigation into the stolen guns from the WSB, but sharing a drink together helped break the ice. Finola Hughes (Anna) admitted to Soap Opera Digest, “They go drink for drink.” “It’s pretty funny, actually.”
With Dante struggling for his life in the hospital, Jason rising from the grave and holed up in Port Charles, and a potential suspect in his shooting, the conversation is undoubtedly not lighthearted. John is willing to listen as Anna, torn between her affections for Sonny, Jason, and Dante and her determination to maintain justice, has to get some things off her chest.
“I believe that Anna feels at ease discussing her issues and worries with men,” Hughes pondered. Furthermore, I believe that she feels particularly at ease discussing that kind of material with law enforcement personnel because, if you think back to the 1980s, she truly grew up doing it if she wasn’t confiding in Felicia. When you consider it, she really doesn’t have anyone else with whom to discuss the things she brings him up to date on.
The chemistry that Adam Harrington’s character John has with several of the ladies in Port Charles—Laura Wright’s Carly and Hughes’ Anna, in particular—has already been noted by fans. And now things are beginning to change between Anna and John’s perception of one another. Hughes laughed and said, “The greater understanding that she comes to is that he isn’t the [jerk] she thought he was.”
