Former Corrie star Helen Flanagan opened up to her followers after holding off from social media, including talking about how she had a mental health crisis due to a “bad reaction”

The Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan has openly acknowledged that she experienced a psychotic episode following a “bad reaction” to her medication.

After taking a break from social media, Flanagan, 33, who is best known for portraying Rosie Webster on the ITV serial opera, has revealed all to her admirers. The actress announced that she “had a few months off social media” in her first Instagram post since January, but she was “back now.”

Helen courageously shared in the post how she has been having mental health issues lately. She continued by saying that since splitting from her long-term partner Scott Sinclair in October 2022, things had started.

Even though they are still loving parents to Matilda, Delilah, and Charlie, Helen acknowledged that she wasn’t feeling well around the holidays. According to Flanagan, she had tried a lot of different methods but none had been able to help her overcome her gloomy feelings.

“So basically I really struggled mental health wise December/January,” she stated in a post. “I felt really not great in my head over Christmas and I didn’t really feel that much different when I took the kids away for new year.”

She additionally stated: “I had a lot of difficult things going on things I just can’t talk about on Instagram.” She started taking medication to “feel better” even though there were things she was looking forward to, including an impending theater tour. However, things were not getting better.

Helen added, “I was emotionally struggling with the breakup from the father of my kids, and I started taking the medication as a way to cope better with being a working single mother of three.” She was taking medicine for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and initially the medication was helping her condition.

But Helen soon described how things went from bad to worse, saying that she started to feel paranoid and eventually had a full-blown psychotic episode. “I had a really bad reaction though to the medication (an ADHD medication) and it sent me into a psychosis for a few days which I didn’t know I was in,” she said.

Helen went on, “I just love my kids so much.” However, this negative reaction occurred a few days before rehearsals began, and regrettably, I was not mentally prepared to handle it.

Although Flanagan acknowledged that she was “heartbroken” over having to cancel the theater run, she maintained that she “needed to stay at home and feel better for me and my kids, with the help of my amazing parents.”

She recently provided followers with an update on her mental health, saying she was in a “really good, happy place”. In addition, she acknowledged that going to therapy had been “amazing” for her and that she was feeling “lighter” as a result of the support she was receiving while she worked on herself.

The Corrie star was scheduled to appear in the Cluedo 2 UK tour. She was subsequently replaced by another former Corrie actress and Strictly winner Ellie Leach because she was playing Miss Scarlett.
