EastEnders newcomer Elijah Holloway, who recently joined the soap opera as Harry Mitchell, had an unforgettable encounter with a former Walford icon on a BBC talent programme.

Elijah Holloway is an actor who also sings and attempted to pursue a music career seven years ago. Elijah Mitchell is Teddy Mitchell’s son.

This week marked the debut of the newest Mitchell family members on EastEnders, with Teddy (played by Roland Manookian) going in search of his father Stevie (played by Alan Ford). Teddy’s son Harry Mitchell is greeted by Elijah Holloway as he enters the Square.

Elijah did, however, pursue a singing career prior to his time on the soap opera and made an audition for the now-canceled BBC talent show Let It Shine in 2017.

Elijah, who was only eighteen at the time, was a high-end perfume salesman when he entered the Let It Shine competition. He pitched perfumes to the panel of celebrities in an attempt to win over the judges with his charisma and sales skills.

Stars such as Dannii Minogue from The X Factor, Amber Riley from Glee, Gary Barlow from Take That, and Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet—who played Steve Owen on EastEnders—were seated at the judges’ table, according to the Daily Star.

During his performance, Elijah pitched to the judges and used his descriptions of perfumes to highlight his personality. But when he mentioned Martin Kemp, implying that he needed a “wooden” scent, things took an embarrassing turn. He quickly clarified, saying, “And by wooden I mean mature and elegant.”

Retaliating, Martin remarked, “I know I was in EastEnders for a while, but that’s below the belt I thought!”

Elijah is now fully immersing himself in his newest role on the soap opera, seven years after his audition.

“It’s a massive privilege to join a British institution like EastEnders, and to be playing a Mitchell makes it even more exciting,” he gushed when asked about his excitement about joining the cast.

Last Thursday, June 27, Harry made a big impression in his first EastEnders scene. He quickly made friends with the people of Walford and even had a sultry encounter with Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine).

The new Mitchells are expected to stir things up in the next episodes as they explore their recently discovered familial ties.
