Next week, Tane (Ethan Browne) will finally be able to launch his most recent endeavor when he takes on the first participants in Summer Bay Fit’s brand-new youth program.

Tane wanted to give back after serving a few of weeks in the city on an intense counseling program as part of his sentence for kidnapping Poppy. He wanted to start a program at the gym for underprivileged kids.

John finally came around when Tane went over his head to present his plan to the committee directly, and approval was given under the condition that a social worker—that is, Harper—was on board.

Harper agreed to commit to the project, even though she wanted to put it behind her—after realizing she had fallen in love with him after their passionate night—because Tane assured her he would find a successor as soon as it was up and running.

Next week, Tane and Harper discuss the first participants in the program, paying special attention to Perri Hayes (Cantona Stewart), a 17-year-old who just served time in juvenile detention. Even though he’s had his share of problems, he never seems to be the catalyst. He sounds ideal for the initiative, in Tane’s opinion.

Perri shows in for the first session later that day along with Ryan (Jake Hardman), Tom, and Brandon (James Caspersz-Loney).

Nonetheless, Tane seems to click with Perri right away after realizing that they have a Māori ancestry.

As they assemble outdoors for their first self-defense classes, Tane reminds the group of the discipline and respect that are the cornerstones of martial arts.

Tane and Harper are attempting to defuse the situation when Brandon swings at Ryan, who dodges the blow and unintentionally punches Harper in the face!

Tane abruptly ends the session and starts to have doubts about the plan. While Harper tells Tane that the incident shows the lads need someone like him for guidance, Alf (Ray Meagher) argues that he only has to take the lessons from the first session and go on.

Tane is even more encouraged to learn that Perri has lingered behind to speak with him, remarking that his peers were acting inappropriately.

Tane says he will be able to study all of this self-defense material if he is prepared to put in the necessary effort when Perri questions whether he really believes he can.

Perri clarifies that he must defend himself in the event that he encounters difficulties once more. He will shortly turn eighteen, and if he is placed behind bars once more, juvie will be replaced with prison.

Tane reminds Perri that his program’s main goal is to stop it from happening and that the abilities he gains are meant to settle conflicts, not ignite new ones.

As they spend the remainder of the afternoon together, the two get closer, and Alf is pleased to see that Tane has taken the teen under his wing when Tane subsequently introduces Perri to Mali (Kyle Shilling) at the board shop.

Alf reminds him, “You only need to change one life to make it all worthwhile.”

Will Perri be able to make a successful recovery with Tane as his mentor?

Perri will have a longer guest appearance that will take place on screen for almost half a year. Despite being raised in Queensland and born in the UK, 28-year-old Cantona Stewart is of Māori origin. When he applied for the job earlier this year, he was already friendly with Ethan Browne, who plays Tane.

Cantona told Australian magazine TV Week, “I’d known Ethan for a few years now, so having the chance to reconnect with him was great.” “He served as a mentor to me and helped me navigate the show’s procedures.”

He said, “I developed a foundation for Perri through a lot of conversations I had with the script department, directors, friends, and whanau back home in New Zealand.” “‘Who?’ was a crucial question I asked myself.” What is my due diligence [about that audience member] and who can relate to Perri?

Nothing can get you ready for the amount of work and self-control required for this show, Cantona continued. It’s incredible to have a script in hand and the chance to collaborate with some of the best filmmakers and actors in the nation every day; it’s truly a pinch-me moment. It exceeded my expectations, and I have no doubt that my time in the Bay will never be matched by anything that comes along next.
