EXCLUSIVE: Tammin, who portrayed Dani Sutherland on the venerable Australian soap opera for four years, has returned to a contentious Dani storyline twenty years later.

Australian actress Tammin Sursok discussed one of her most well-known Home and Away plots from the 2000s with Yahoo Lifestyle, saying she was unaware of the influence her character Dani Sutherland had on the show’s younger audience during that time.

Dani Sutherland, the actress and podcast presenter, left Summer Bay in 2004, but her influence can still be seen in the program because to her romantic roles with characters like Josh West, Scott Hunter, and Will Smith, as well as her dramatized extended family life and her imprisonment for attempted murder (more on that later).

Tammin has taken on many roles since leaving Home and Away. She has had a prosperous music career, starred in shows like The Young and the Restless and Hannah Montana, portrayed Jenna Marshall in the beloved teen drama Pretty Little Liars, got married, had two daughters, and is currently hosting her own podcast, The Sh!t Show with Tammin Sursok.

In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Tammin discussed her experience on Home and Away as well as the famous Summer Bay years of the 2000s. in addition to discussing one of the most contentious plots she was required to portray in her role as Dani Sutherland.

When asked if she was shocked that her Home and Away character was still mentioned twenty years later, Tammin responded that she had heard of a recent Logies interview in which participants were asked which character they would want to see return, and “four out of twelve” of them mentioned Dani.

“When I saw those things and thought, wow, like people really did love that time period of Home and Away, I was like, oh my goodness, I did not know that I made an impact or the character made an impact,” she remarked. “I believe that these characters truly became a part of the families; they were so familiar with them.”

There were a lot of dramatic stories involving the Sutherland family on the soap opera, but maybe none as dramatic as the one when Dani was sexually raped and her sister Kirsty fell in love with her attacker, Kane Philips.

Regarding the contentious plot, Tammin said to Yahoo Lifestyle that it was “not great.”

We had to reshoot the entire two weeks because Tammin delivered an overly realistic performance, which she described as difficult. “I had to go back and reshoot it, which was really difficult for me, because I think they thought it wasn’t for the specific timeslot because it was too realistic.”

For the first time in my professional life, I realized that what matters for the system as a whole must important to everyone, regardless of your personal beliefs. Furthermore, what they present might not always be what you desire, according to Tammin. And that might be challenging for actors at times because, after finishing a scene and feeling like you did a great job, you watch the TV show again and realize that you never even shot that awful take.

She went on, “I’m not saying it was bad, but it was difficult to put something out there that I wasn’t as proud of.” “I found the plot to be intriguing.”
