After being left “fuming,” EastEnders viewers are certain they know the “reason why” the BBC has delayed the Christmas schedule for the first time in the show’s history.

EastEnders fans usually gather on Christmas Day to enjoy the show’s scandalous happenings, and it’s almost time for the yearly holiday chaos in Albert Square. However, a change to this year’s plan that moves the Christmas episode’s broadcast from its customary 9 p.m. time slot to 10 p.m. has left many furious.

On X, then known as Twitter, one irate spectator yelled, “I want my EastEnders at 8pm then I can go to BED,” while supporters called the choice “diabolical.” One indifferent admirer, nevertheless, stated: “I host my pals for Christmas dinner. By the time Eastenders comes on, I’m usually either too inebriated or unconscious. For me, it’s a hungover boxing day ritual rather than a Christmas one.

Every year, EastEnders viewers eagerly await the Christmas episode.

10 p.m.?? Another remark predicted that the special will be something extraordinary, so it had better be worth it, not just anguish for Linda.

But as one Reddit user wrote: “Logical explanation is that it needs to be past the watershed for some reason due to content,” they “figured out the reason.” They have a large event planned, which I guess won’t be suitable for watching before nine o’clock. Another fan conjectured on the platform that 10 p.m. is only coincidence because they fit in so much on days like Christmas Day.

Fans have said that EastEnders has a lot to “live up to” after the wildly dramatic The Six plot in Christmas 2023, which is why the soap opera has kept its Christmas preparations so secret. Nish Panesar’s emotional parting moments, in which he accepted responsibility for Keanu Taylor’s death, just marked the final “end” of this narrative.

A dramatic ‘end’ was just reached in the Six plot.

The Six, Suki, Stacey, Denise, Sharon, Kathy, and Linda, watched from outside the murder scene, The Queen Vic, as Navin Chowdhry was taken away in a police vehicle in his dying moments. Photographs taken by photographers earlier this year showed a burial happening on the Square.

In a startling change of events, actors Danny Hatchard and Maddy Hill were seen reprising their parts as Nancy and Lee Carter, siblings, in these enigmatic burial scenes. Many fans were concerned that Linda could be leaving the stage in tears this Christmas because Elaine, Callum, and Johnny were also there.

Only a few months before the soap opera’s 40th anniversary, which will be shown live, this year’s holiday episode will air. Furthermore, viewers will be able to vote on the conclusion of a love story for the first time ever, however the people involved have not yet been revealed.
