Viewers of Emmerdale might be saying goodbye to one villager permanently as actor Matthew Wolfenden is said to have quit the ITV soap opera.
Although he might be facing a fatal end, Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has played David Metcalfe in the ITV soap for 17 years.
The 43-year-old has reportedly made the decision to leave the long-running program, which he has been a part of since 2006.
David may have been at the center of some of Emmerdale’s most dramatic plotlines, but sources say the actor is now open to exploring new opportunities.
Although the actor, who is wed to former soap opera actress Charley Webb, hasn’t made an official announcement of his leaving, it’s thought that writers are working on a plot for his retirement.
ITV has been contacted by Express.co.uk for comment.

Despite spending nearly 20 years on the soap opera with satisfaction, a source informed The Sun that Matthew is ready for a change.
“Matthew has had an incredible time on the soap, but feels ready for a change,” they alleged. He wants to see what else is available because he hasn’t recently been receiving any grim narratives.
He will have a lot of support for whatever he chooses to do next because he is a fan favorite. The opportunities are inspiring him greatly.
He just announced his departure, so the writers are still planning his on-screen goodbye. There’s a chance David won’t survive.

After having to say goodbye to his daughter Amba (played by Ava Jayasinghe), Matthew’s character hasn’t had an easy time in the hamlet thus far.
Despite David’s best efforts to keep her close, Amba departed with her mother Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade), after fans witnessed him abduct his own child.
Following Dan Spencer’s (Liam Fox) departure from the show earlier this week following his eight-year prison sentence, David would leave the show.
After punching Lloyd Sawyer (Matt Sutton), who was getting close to his 16-year-old daughter Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), Dan was charged with manslaughter.

Even though he was initially charged with GBH when Lloyd was taken to the hospital after banging his head on the floor, the scenario changed when Lloyd passed away as a result of his wounds.
Liam Fox spoke to Express.co.uk and other media outlets about his final scenes in the soap opera: “It’s extremely nicely written, it’s really nice stuff. While reading it, I found myself crying a couple times.
It’s incredibly beautiful and heartfelt stuff. I consider myself quite blessed to have received that kind of writing for the story.
