Dee-Dee is shocked to realise how much Ed still owes in upcoming scenes.

The character – played by Lorna Laidlaw – has been absent from screens since June last year.

Her shift work as a nurse was initially cited as the reason for her absence, but it was later discovered that she had traveled to Birmingham to take care of her ailing aunt.

Subsequently, her spouse Ed’s gambling addiction has resurfaced, causing him to face severe financial difficulties.

Aggie called off their marriage after learning of it, but in later scenes, Ed receives devastating news after traveling to Birmingham in an attempt to make apologies.

Michael, the couple’s son, presents Dee-Dee with a last request that Ed received in the mail on the Cobbles.

When Dee-Dee realizes how much Ed still owes, she is astonished.

After arriving from Birmingham, Ed informs Michael that Aggie has given him the order to march and that he will not be going back home.

Hugging him consolingly, Michael swiftly moves the last demand letter out of sight.

Actor Trevor Michael Georges previously opened out to Digital Spy about Ed’s previous gambling problems. He said: “Ed brought his entire family into trouble and nearly lost everything because of his gambling addiction. This is why the Baileys came to Coronation Street.

They carried everything they owned with them when they moved to Corrie, and because of the size difference, you can actually tell that the furniture hardly fits in their current home.

“This serves as a continual reminder to Ed of his past self… I don’t think he will ever be free of that guilt.

“I feel this really emphasises the tragedy behind Ed getting sucked back into gambling because he truly thought he had conquered it.”

“A professional liar is definitely the right term at this point,” he went on.

“I believe that most addicts and gamblers are unaware of their exceptional acting abilities.

Most individuals find it difficult to improvise on the fly. Addicts, on the other hand, are adept at hiding their sources and can find a way around everything.”
