Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank has been slammed online for sharing his controversial views about the Covid pandemic, climate change and government surveillance
Fans of Coronation Street are perplexed to learn that a prominent star of the ITV soap opera enjoys disseminating conspiracy theories on social media.
Actor Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays vicar Billy Mayhew in the Cobbles, is currently juggling an assisted dying plot, so he has a lot on his plate on set. Billy finds it difficult to accept that his spouse Paul has motor neurone disease and wishes to take his own life before it worsens.
However, the actor has expressed some fairly controversial opinions online. During the Covid-19 outbreak in 2022, he faced criticism for his anti-vax beliefs. He even liked and retweeted postings that demanded the arrest of SAGE scientists.
However, the actor has since changed, sharing a wide range of conspiracies regarding climate change, government surveillance, and other topics. Jim Ferguson, a previous Brexit contender, reposted one post that said, “Breaking news: climate lockdowns are coming.”

“A ‘trial’ of climate lockdown is approved by Oxfordshire County Council to start in 2024. To “save the planet,” residents will be restricted to their neighborhood and require permission to leave, according to the tweet. The so-called “lockdown” is actually a trial program investigating traffic reduction to lessen congestion in the surrounding area.
The county council assured The Associated Press that “everywhere in the city will still be accessible by car” and that no one would be forced to stay in their neighborhoods. “Nobody will need permission from the county council to drive or leave their home,” stated spokeswoman Paul Smith.

Alternatively, license plate recognition cameras have the authority to charge drivers who violate “filters” without obtaining a permission; these fines are capped at 100 per person annually.
A guy in Britain was allegedly “fined £90” for hiding his face from a facial recognition camera, according to posts that Brocklebank has retweeted. However, community notes have subsequently been added to clarify that the individual was really arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Fans flocked to Reddit to express their shock at the modest Billy star’s decision to publish his opinions online. “God, his Twitter is like the worst 14-year-old conspiracy theorists’!” wrote one. To be honest, I was shocked.
Another person said, “There are moments when I long to go back in time to a period when it was easy to avoid learning how strange and unpleasant an actor was by just avoiding the rags.” A third echoed, saying, “New news to me, to be honest, I’m quite surprised the more and more of his Twitter I was reading.” Extremely extreme right conspiracy theories—so much so that Elon Musk’s “X” really possesses “community notes” that refute the nonsense Billy from Corrie is saying.
