Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks has ditched the ITV Dales for rival soap Corrie, and fans have predicted a mass killing off of characters who have become ‘dead wood’
Fans of Coronation Street are expecting a “cast cull” now that Kate Brooks, the new producer, is involved.
Producer Kate from Emmerdale has moved to Weatherfield and left behind Michelle Hardwick, her co-star who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the Dales. Iain MacLeod, who was promoted to Executive Producer for Continuing Drama at ITV, is being replaced in the position by her.
Additionally, supporters already have a list of requirements they want to see fulfilled when Kate takes over. In the Conversation Street podcast on X, the question was posed to the audience: “What modifications would you like Kate Brooks to make to #Corrie? Send your thoughts via Twitter below!
Reducing the cast, which includes murdering off Sean, and Ed Bailey getting an abroad opportunity so he packs his bags after Aggie puts time on their marriage were among the many fast responses from fans. Another said: “Slice through. A character overload. It must return to its original purpose of being a working-class drama set in Manchester. It seems overly gaudy and, quite frankly, artificial.

“Think we’re due for a big disaster on the street,” a second admirer said. A crash that will talk to soap opera lovers, though perhaps not as huge as the tram crash. Another person concurred, saying, “Cull 25–30 characters.” Less plotlines and more focus on little, everyday issues and relationships!
Another astute observer said, “Focus on the current characters rather than constantly introducing new ones.” Eliminate the current cast of characters. Put more emphasis on narratives that are driven by characters than just awareness-raising ones! Additionally, please produce a few episodes where a disclaimer is not required beforehand!

Some fans wanted to see more attention paid to the elder characters, such as Mary, Ken, and Roy. “Less storylines about the kids—there have been moments lately when Corrie felt like Grange Hill,” a viewer commented. I understand that all ages must be served, but try spreading things out a little more.
An additional user commented, “I enjoy stories centered around the younger characters, but I wish there was more attention given to some of the older characters, like Steve, Mary, Brian, Sally, Kevin, and so on.

It happens after Kate formally declared her intention to join the cobbles, saying, “I feel incredibly proud to be a part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years. I’ve had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the show, and I have had the honor of collaborating with a group of incredibly talented and diligent individuals who also happen to be the most adorable.” Emmerdale has given me so much more than I could have ever dreamed, both personally and professionally, and I will always be grateful for that. Thank you Emmerdale; it has been a true joy.”
