Former Coronation Street icon Tracy Shaw made a splash when she starred in the famous stage play The Blue Room, but she confessed it’s “much more” than live nudity
A Coronation Street star who had to strip off for a role in the raucous theatrical production of The Blue Room didn’t let it phase her.
Tracy Shaw is well remembered for her role as Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap opera, which she starred in for a staggering 665 episodes between 1995 and 2003. However, she abandoned Maxine that year, allowing Richard Hillman to savagely kill her.
Tracy also seemed unfazed by being permanently eliminated, as she swiftly secured a part in the Dartford-based theatrical production that had Nicole Kidman in its 1998 premiere. Tracy had to spend “five or six minutes” completely nude while a figure performed a cartwheel across the stage while wearing a buff outfit.
In short, one actor and one actress portray the parts of five women and five men during ten sexual encounters in the play. “Everyone knows it for its nudity but it is much more than that,” Tracy admitted at the time. It is a fantastic example of contemporary theater. I’m not too bothered by it. Everyone talks about how I go nude all the time, but nobody seems to care that Jason does too.”

Tracy may not have been troubled by the contentious nude scenes, but they certainly created a commotion in Northern Ireland when the play traveled to Londonderry. The vulgar play was denounced by protestors and religious leaders, who demanded that it be outlawed. Former deputy mayor Alderman Mary Hamilton was incensed at the time, saying, “I do not think we need to be shown these kind of things in a theater.” It might give youth permission to engage in a variety of activities.”
Adults only were permitted entry, and her co-star Jason Connery, who appeared alongside her in the show, acknowledged that the “fuss” around nudity sometimes got to him. “I have to be perfectly honest with you, when they offered me the part, I knew as much about it as the man in the street probably does,” he told the MEN in his explanation. You know, all that nonsense about Nicole Kidman being a theatrical Viagra…

After giving it some thought, I realized that I had never performed a two-hander play, engaged in stage nudity, or sung on stage before. How often do you get the opportunity to take a risk like that? I’ll carry it out!
“However, I was rather caught off guard by the amount of attention that Tracy and I received for appearing nude during some scenes in the play. I don’t wish to offend her, and we’ve become close friends while traveling, but I had no clue how much of an influence Coronation Street seems to have on some individuals!
“On the first night, I think it was, some photographer creep just stood up in the middle of the stalls and started taking photographs while we were trying to perform!” he said.

After Shaw’s departure, Adele Lynch assumed the role and said of the nudity, “I am naked for literally 15 seconds.” Tracy Shaw was five or six minutes, which is really gutsy, but Nicole Kidman was a little less. A small flash is acceptable, but that amount of time allows the viewer to examine closely.
“If you’re not confident, you’ll come across as a little silly. The first time was unsettling, but now I’m comfortable. Few people are blessed with a flawless body, and I am simply a regular person playing five other regular people. I feel much more secure about my figure now.
