Fans of EastEnders have expressed anticipation that Kat and Alfie could reunite, but Shane Richie has cautioned that their renewed romance will likely be impacted by issues with erectile dysfunction.
The BBC serial star portrays Alfie Moon, whose long-running, intermittent relationship with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) is a favorite among viewers. In Tuesday’s episode, viewers witnessed the erstwhile pair sharing a kiss. But while they work to get back on track, they will have to deal with the lingering repercussions of Alfie’s recovery from prostate cancer.
Richie also said on This Morning that his character was initially brought in for an age-gap relationship with the late Dame Barbara Windsor’s character, Peggy Mitchell, in the vein of The Graduate.

EastEnders viewers have always enjoyed the plot of Kat Slater and Alfie Moon’s will-they-won’t-they romance, and Shane Richie has now essentially confirmed that the couple will be reunited. However, they will likely have health problems.
In an interview with This Morning, Richie, who plays Alfie, discussed how his character kissed Kat in Tuesday’s episode and stated that they would have to cope with the consequences of his prostate cancer.
The actor said, “You have to watch tonight,” when asked if Kat and Alfie were back on. We deal with what I believe is erectile dysfunction, and tonight comes the big reveal. As you are aware, Alfie is dealing with his post-prostate cancer.
Richie began playing Alfie in the BBC soap opera in 2002. Since then, his character has married Kat and then broken up with her, gone through a baby swap with her, had an affair with her sister, appeared in the Kat and Alfie spin-off series Redwater, and had a number of instances where it appeared that a reunion with Kat might be imminent.
Richie claimed that it would alter his relationship with Kat when fans seen Alfie learn in 2023 that he had prostate cancer, a condition that still affects the character after his recuperation.

“As entertaining as it may be to see Kat and Alfie reunite, we discuss the consequences of prostate cancer and how it impacts libido,” he stated.
“I had to go and see my GP and he doesn’t really watch the show but he said, ‘I understand your character has done a story with prostate cancer,'” he continued, discussing the influence of the plot. He said, “because we’ve had an influx of gentlemen coming in to get checked because of what you did on the show,” when I asked, “why’s that?” We’ve done a fantastic job if we save even one life.
In addition, Richie revealed the unexpected reason why his character first appeared in Albert Square: as a figure in an age-gap romance with Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell, who was portrayed by the late Dame Barbara Windsor.

“The original plan was that Alfie and Peggy, who were clearly portrayed by Barbara Windsor, were going to recreate The Graduate story when I went in in 2002,” he stated. We talked about that tale, and then Jessie and I had a chemistry that they noticed on screen.”
“Kat and Alfie was a real slow burner for about a year and then they eventually got together,” he said. “Going out on the street and seeing people going crazy was an odd time. Everyone believed it.
“There were many alpha men back when you had the Mitchells. The man who made the Moons must have been a huge fan of Only Fools and Horses when Alfie entered the picture. Alfie, Nana, and Spencer were involved because he wanted to create it with the Moons.
