Ross Kemp was excited to get a job filming a glamorous advertisement but was shocked to learn that they picked him because he is “ugly”.

Before making it big in EastEnders as Grant Mitchell, wife of Sharon (Letitia Dean), the TV tough guy was flown to Italy. Ross, 59, admitted that he was “pretty smug” about landing the role for Bacardi and working with attractive Italians.

The director was a charming American man by the name of Dickford, he wrote in his most recent book Take Nothing For Granted. I recall telling Dickford that it was odd that they seemed to cast so many British men in Italian commercials.

We just can’t find any Italian men who are ugly enough, he continued. Italians need to be persuaded that drinking Bacardi makes even ugly people more attractive.

I smile and nod in agreement, but I’m suddenly feeling a lot less arrogant about my sex appeal. Ross had to stop filming his new prison show due to “an incident” while speaking with drug gangs, which is why this has happened.

Ross Kemp: 72 Hours In, his new show for Channel 5, had been in production. The soap opera star explores what it’s like to live in some of the most dangerous prisons in the world on the show.

However, according to Deadline, the infamous “hard man” has been forced to stop filming, and the show’s production has been momentarily put on hold while discussions take place between Paramount UK and the executive producers. The only explanation given for this is that “an incident” occurred.

The cast was allegedly scheduled to film in Colombia, where they would have continued to shoot the show until the holiday season. However, a Channel 5 spokeswoman stated: “Filming had started on the series, but due to unanticipated production issues, we have made the sensible decision to halt filming at this time.”

Kemp also intended to visit a number of other risky detention facilities around the globe. Asia and South America would serve as the bases for these locations. Ross previously stated that he wanted to push the limits of what the series could accomplish. I’ve been to some of the toughest prisons in the world, he said in a statement to The Sun. I had assumed I had seen everything, but this time we’re going even further.
