Sam Dingle and Lydia are one of the village’s sturdiest marriages, but when Sam discovers the heartbreaking truth, things could get complicated.

Sam Dingle’s (James Hooton) marriage in Emmerdale may be in jeopardy because he is afraid to touch his traumatized wife.

ITV soap opera viewers were horrified to watch Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) be sexually assaulted by Craig Reed (Ben Addis) last month.

When he first arrived in the village, the pair, who had become childhood friends after first meeting in a children’s home, began to get close.

But while she was at work, he took advantage of their developing friendship and sexually assaulted her.

Viewers have seen Lydia struggle with what happened ever since the terrifying incident because she bristles whenever Sam touches her.

Some locals have been left to believe Lydia is having an affair because she only confided in Kim Tate (Claire King), especially since she left the village.

Sam was under the impression Lydia was going to her mother’s house and when he found out she wasn’t there, he panicked.

Lydia decides it’s time to tell her family and friends what happened after leaving her a voicemail.

However, given that the couple is having a difficult time dealing with Lydia’s trauma, it appears that there may be marital problems in the future.

ITV soap official spoilers are revealed Sam suggests that they spend the day together in an effort to rekindle his marriage with his wife.

He is devastated when she declines his offer, and he is unsure of how to handle the circumstance.

Sam is left feeling lost and helpless and afraid to touch his traumatized wife as Lydia insistence that she wants to clean the house.

The soap star made a hint that the fallout from her sexual assault might have a significant impact on her marriage while speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk.

She stated: “She is terrified that this could mean the end of her marriage to Sam, which is her entire world, and the end of the Dingle family, which is extremely important to Lydia.

“She grew up in care, in isolation, she’s estranged in many ways from her own family so the Dingles are her absolute world.”

Will Sam and Lydia be able to make it through the terrible event? Or do they intend to get divorced?
