As a resigned Alf tries to permanently close his long-running business in Home and Away this week, it might be hook, line, and sink for Summer Bay’s famous Bait Shop.

Not himself yet Alf (Ray Meagher) seems to have lost his zest for life after a health scare forced him to the hospital weeks ago. As he looks for a new location for the Bait Shop, he has become distant from his friends, family, and job.

The actress Georgie Parker, 59, who portrays Alf’s daughter Roo, tells TV WEEK, “Alf’s serious health scare has taken the wind out of his sails.” The shutting of the Bait Shop makes everything worse. He feels as though there is nothing he can do about it.

There is some optimism, though, when Alf finds an abandoned shed in the trailer park that he thinks would make an excellent location for a store. However, Roo isn’t enthusiastic.

Georgie states, “Roo does not want Alf to use the old shed.” It’s really little, filthy, and old; to be honest, he deserves better. She is adamant about building her dad the best bait shop she can.

Roo comes up with a scheme to build a brand-new area at the caravan park while she enlists her friends Marilyn (Emily Symons), Justin (James Stewart), and his wife Leah (Ada Nicodemou) in their cause.

However, that comes with the requirement for finance and municipal approval, and for poor old Alf, it all sounds like too much.

Will there be a new home for the cherished Bait Shop? Or will this year see the loss of yet another landmark in Summer Bay?
