The ITV soap opera Coronation Street cast member Alan Halsall is most remembered for his portrayal as Tyrone Dobbs, who first appeared in Weatherfield in 1998.

Express.co.uk looks inside Alan’s life, including his on-set relationships, soap award victories, and his current emotional plotline with co-stars Maureen Lipman and Claire Sweeney.

Tyrone Dobbs’s appearance on Coronation Street

When Tyrone initially arrived in Weathefield, he was Jackie Dobbs’ (Margi Clarke’s) troubled kid who had been hauled from pillar to post due to Jackie’s frequent incarceration and release.

Tyrone made the decision to change his life in 2008 and decided to learn as an apprentice mechanic under Kevin Webster (Michael le Vell).

He immediately developed a close relationship with Vera Duckworth (Elizabeth Dawn) and Jack Duckworth (William Tarney), who had a profound influence on his life.

Before settling down and getting married to Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine), Tyrone had romances with a number of the Weatherfield inhabitants, including Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), Molly Compton (Vicky Binns), and Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede).

But he discovered after Molly’s burial that their son Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes) was actually best friends with Kevin as a result of an affair, therefore, all of his relationships carry baggage.

His most compelling narrative began when he initially started dating Kirsty in 2011–2012, who subjected him to months of physical and emotional abuse.

Tyrone stayed with Kirsty out of concern that she would harm their daughter Ruby Dobbs (Macy Alabi) if she turned the abuse on her.

When she disrupted his trial and forced ABH to admit to lying to the police about him pushing her down the stairs, he was finally able to go.

He and his ex-girlfriend Fiz were reunited as a result of the incident, and he now serves as both Hope’s and Ruby’s father.

In 2018, Tyrone learned that his true mother Cassandra Plummer (Claire Sweeney) had abandoned him as a baby and that his grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) had raised him.

Tyrone and Fiz’s relationship hasn’t been easy because in 2021, he developed feelings for Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu).

He eventually realised that he still loved Fiz after Hope Stape (Isabelle Flanagan) nearly murdered her in a fire, and the two of them wed in 2022.

love between co-stars

Alan’s romantic life, like that of his character, didn’t get off to the best of starts when he fell in love with co-star Lucy-Jo Hudson, who played Katie Harris.

From 2002 until 2005, Lucy-Jo worked on Coronation Street. In 2009, the couple became engaged.

Following the birth of their daughter Sienna-Rae in September 2013, the couple made the announcement that they would divorce in 2016.

A few weeks later, for a brief time, they were able to renew their romance before Lucy-Jo once more declared they were getting divorced in 2018.

Alan previously acknowledged that, except from talking about his kid, he doesn’t communicate with his ex very often any longer.

He later moved on and is now happily seeing Tisha Merry, who portrayed Steph Britton on the cobblestones. They made their romance public in 2019.

The couple has previously stated their desire to have a family together, with Tisha remarking that Alan would be “such a good dad.”

She said of him, “He’ll be so amazing. I accepted a job as a babysitter while we were still friends, and I invited Alan along. When we arrived, just Alan was watching the children.

“He’s a wonderful father; he’s very tenderhearted and loving. He pays attention to everything, and their communication is quite solid. If we have a child, I would adore that for them.

Soap Awards

Being a part of one of the most popular ITV soap operas entails receiving prizes, which Alan is accustomed to.

For his role in the Kirsty and Tyrone abuse plotline, Alan was nominated for a British Soap Award back in 2013.

He and his on-screen spouse Jennie McAlpine both received nominations for Best On-Screen Partnership.

In the same year, Alan was also honoured with a British Soap Award for Best Actor.

This year, EastEnders, Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks will all compete for the National Television Award against Coronation Street, which has once again been nominated.

I’m a Celebrity Stint and other roles outside of Coronation Street

Alan hasn’t been in many other projects outside of the soap opera because his role as Tyrone first debuted in 1998 and has remained a consistent character throughout the years.

In the years 1998 to 1999, he played Trevor Chivers in Heatbeat and Ryan Tunce in Stanton Blues.

Alan also spent a brief time as Ollie in Children’s Ward between 1997 and 1998 before storming into Weatherfield.

He might, however, be planning to take a break from the ITV soap opera and don a jungle costume instead of his mechanic’s outfit.

The Sun received information from a source regarding Alan possibly joining I’m A Celebrity. Get Me Out of Here! and remarked: “Alan comes with a ready-made fan base because Tyrone is one of Corrie’s most popular characters.

Adam Woodyatt is a current example of a soap actor who didn’t exactly fit in at camp despite being known for playing famous roles.

ITV is thrilled that Alan is in talks to join their cast for the 2023 season because he is a terrific young man with tonnes of charisma.
