Character from EastEnders Pastor Clayton gave off the impression of being a gentleman of the church at first, but in reality, he was concealing dark secrets that came to light after a terrifying encounter with reliable friend Yolande Trueman.
After he sexually raped Yolande Trueman (played by Angela Wynter), Pastor Clayton on EastEnders swiftly gained notoriety as more victims came forward. Yolande was upset earlier this year to learn that Agatha, a fellow churchgoer, had been circulating rumors about her and Pastor Clayton.
Pastor Clayton told Yolande that he would stop the rumor in spite of the incident. However, in a horrifying turn of events, he molested Yolande when they were overseeing a function in the church. Yolande has had excruciating pain and stress as a result of the occurrence, which has made her doubt her religion.
Yolande gathered the courage to report the evil preacher to the authorities, and other victims came forward as well. However, in later scenes, Yolande is confronted by Pastor Clayton, who demands that she retract her allegation. When she refuses, he storms out of Walford.
Following a long day at the harvest celebrations, Patrick (Rudolph Walker) and Yolande decide to head home for the evening. However, they are abruptly cut short when the authorities show there and disclose that Pastor Clayton committed suicide.
Let’s look at actor Howard Saddler’s life outside of Walford as he bids adieu to his role as Pastor Clayton in the soap opera. Saddler’s career as an actor started in the 1990s when he made a cameo as Detective Chambers on the beloved children’s program Grange Hill.
His career has spanned almost thirty years, beginning with appearances in Doctors, Footballer’s Wives, and The Bill, according to MyLondon. Between 2003 and 2005, Saddler played Lesley ‘Les’ Boulter in Family Affairs, where she was given larger roles.
Fans of the BBC soap opera may remember that Howard had appeared on TV in 2002 as Doctor Daniel Rodford for a brief episode before taking on the role of Pastor Clayton.
In one of the BBC soap opera’s most memorable Christmas storylines, the doctor was a minor character who helped Jamie Mitchell after he was struck by Martin Fowler’s car.
Fans of sitcoms may recognize Howard from his 2002–2003 tenure as Oliver on The Office. The worker at Wernham Hogg is a kind Swindonian man who takes David Brent’s (Ricky Gervais) “jokes” in stride.
Brent makes crude comments about this Swindon transferee’s race to start a romance, but Oliver is laid back and laughs it off. He is the only one of the “Swindon slugs” that tries to get along with his new employer.
Oliver appears to become agitated only when Sheila, one of his coworkers, confides in him. In addition, he has acting credits from Waking the Dead, Black Cake, Judge John Deed, and Rockface.
Prior to assuming the character of Pastor Clayton in EastEnders, Howard had a brief appearance as Herald in a single episode of Netflix’s The Witcher in 2023. Next week, Howard Saddler will appear in EastEnders as Pastor Clayton.
