Although Lily from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has experienced a great deal of turmoil, it is evident from her past experiences that she is a survivor. When Christel Khalil joined the soap opera in 2002, the character of Lily—who had previously been portrayed by child actors—became older. Davetta Sherwood filled in for her when she left Y&R in 2005, and Khalil returned in 2006. The actress only made sporadic appearances on the serial opera after disclosing in 2018 that she was dropping to recurring status; however, by August 2020, she returned full-time.Well, that is, until Khalil took a maternity leave in December 2023. The story might then resume when the actress reappeared on screen in March 2024!

Lily’s mother, Drucilla Winters, gave her husband, Neil Winters, the impression that the child was his, even though Malcolm Winters, his brother, was actually the real baby daddy. Dru’s relationship with Neil was turbulent, and she eventually left to become a model in Paris, taking their daughter with her. In 2002, Dru’s return with a teenage Lily provided the motivation Neil, who was an alcoholic, needed to get back on track. Lily was infected with a sexually transmitted infection after meeting Kevin Fisher online. Devon Hamilton was a disturbed teenager that she made friends with. Neil and Dru decided to take him in as foster parents, and in the end they adopted him.

Malcolm was dubious about Lily’s true parentage and harbored resentment towards Neil when he returned to Genoa City. She fell in love with Daniel Romalotti, but the teenagers fled the police after he was accused of vehicular manslaughter in Cassie Newman’s murder. Daniel was cleared when their families were eventually able to bring them home, but Lily was sent to boarding school. She came back for Devon’s eighteenth birthday and met Daniel right away. After eloping, the young couple moved into the Abbott estate… Lily told Neil that she was horrified to hear Phyllis and Dru fighting and that she was actually Malcolm’s daughter. Lily was saddened to learn later that her mother was thought to be dead, and her marriage to Daniel broke down when he developed a porn addiction.

Because of their age gap, Lily found Cane Ashby attractive, but he was hesitant to pursue a relationship with her. Naturally, it didn’t last long, and they quickly became enamored with one another. However, they broke up after Chloe said she was expecting Cane’s child when, in reality, it was Billy Abbott’s. When the truth about the baby was eventually revealed, Lily and Cane made up and got married. Lily’s ovarian cancer diagnosis allowed them to reunite despite the fact that the truth about his identity almost drove their marriage to an end.Thankfully, Mackenzie Browning volunteered to be Lily’s surrogate and some of her eggs were able to be stored. Charlie and Mattie, Mac’s twins, were born, and Lily also entered remission. Sadly, Cane’s perilous past in Australia finally came up with him, and following his shooting, Lily’s spouse passed away in her arms!

Lily was shocked to discover that Cane was alive and that it had actually been his twin brother, Caleb, who had been slain. She was grieving the loss of her spouse and was horrified to often see glimpses of him! Feeling deceived, she ran away from him and even went back to Daniel, but she couldn’t help but fall in love with Cane, and on Valentine’s Day, the pair remarried. At Jabot Cosmetics, where they both worked, Cane momentarily felt envious of Tyler Michaelson’s interest to Lily. (She obviously only had eyes for her husband.)

Lily had doubts about Hilary Curtis, Cane’s new assistant, and later found out she was plotting Neil’s demise. You can only imagine her feelings when Hilary changed her mind and Neil started to fall in love with her later in life! As soon as Hilary began seeing Devon, Lily’s opinion of her also deteriorated. Despite several difficult moments in their marriage, such as when Lily had an affair with Joe Clark, Lily and Cane were able to sort things out in the end.

Cane’s intoxication during a business trip in Hong Kong posed a threat to their happiness, since he had an affair with Juliet Helton. Lily was hurt; Juliet’s discovery that she was pregnant just made her hurt more. Sadly, Juliet passed away during childbirth, leaving Cane to raise their baby Sam alongside Lily. Lily was not pleased when Devon volunteered to assist Hilary in fulfilling her desire of becoming a mother. Lily was incensed that Hilary had exposed Juliet to the possibility of suing Cane for sexual harassment.

A truck struck Lily and Hilary when she ran a red light out of distraction while they were in the car arguing with a pregnant Hilary. After Hilary and her unborn child passed away due to their wounds, Devon, who was crushed, determined to hold Lily accountable for killing the person he loved. The court condemned Lily to a year in prison despite his last-minute change of heart and request for leniency! Cane and the twins paid her frequent visits, but it was evident that she found prison life difficult. For her own protection, she moved to a facility further from Genoa City.

Although Lily was given an early release, she told Cane that she also desired to get divorced. Regretfully, her father unexpectedly died around the same time, and after Neil’s funeral, Lily departed Genoa City in order to begin a new life as a teacher for the prisoners she had previously been incarcerated with. Later that year, she came back to assist Devon after he lost his fortune and for Neil’s dedication ceremony. Then, in March 2020, Lily went back to think about Jill Abbott’s offer to take over Chancellor’s social media business alongside Billy. Despite a rough beginning, things quickly heated up and romance developed!

Lily stood up for Billy when he was suspected of shooting Chance Chancellor, even going so far as to vindicate his identity. When he told her straight out that he had slept with Summer Newman, she even commended his honesty. The children took a fancy to Lily and accepted her as their dad’s new girlfriend, despite Lily’s suspicions that Victoria was using her and Billy’s children to ruin their developing relationship. They even made the decision to live together! However, following an unsuccessful attempt to acquire Cyaxares Media, they found themselves forming a coalition to defend Chance Comm against Newman Media.

Although Lily disapproved of Billy’s intentions to expose Ashland Locke and jeopardize his union with Victoria, she supported him when the Newmans attempted to take over their company.

Lily persuaded Devon to combine Chancellor and Hamilton-Winters into a single, large family business while she kept hiring additional workers. Billy, however, felt alienated as a result, and once Lily voiced her worries, he stopped hosting his podcast in order to concentrate on being her COO. She even sought to purchase the Grand Phoenix, but Phyllis rejected her. She also thought about starting a hotel. Lily tried to make things right, but Nate resigned after having too many arguments with Devon.

After Lily and Devon collaborated to make Chancellor-Winters public, everyone was taken aback when Nate admitted that he had leaked private information about the IPO as payback. In addition, Lily had to let Jill know that Billy had resigned from his position as COO. She was taken aback when Amanda also resigned. When Billy confessed that Chelsea Lawson’s despair had driven her to attempt suicide, Lily understood why he had been spending so much time with her, but she also became more and more irritated at the fact that he seemed more interested in helping Chelsea than in spending time with her.

Both Lily and Daniel were taken aback to see each other again in Genoa City and to discover that she and Billy were dating. However, tension in the relationship was growing. Lily recommended that they go to couples counseling, but she didn’t think it would help, so she recommended that they take a break. Lily hired Daniel to create his new gaming platform for Chancellor-Winters, but when Devon objected to the firm going public and desired to reclaim Hamilton-Winters, things became more problematic.

Lily recruited Amanda to represent them after Devon decided to take legal action and hired Christine to assist him in regaining possession of Hamilton-Winters. Even when Jill dropped plans to take Chancellor-Winters public and Victor became a private investor, Devon refused to collaborate with Lily. However, the siblings reconciled during the Neil Winters Jazz Lounge’s dedication, and Devon decided to dismiss the lawsuit.

Lily and Daniel’s relationship heated up and they decided to give it another shot after first opting to keep things friendly. Lily moved into his former penthouse apartment after Devon and Abby moved into the Chancellor estate, and Daniel obtained his own apartment in the same building. When Daniel’s daughter Lucy Romalotti and ex-wife Heather Stevens returned to Genoa City, Lily thought Daniel was going too far. Mamie Johnson stunned Devon and Lily by revealing that she was Chancellor-Winters’ covert investor when she returned to Genoa City. They also opposed her attempts to bring Nate back into the fold and turn it into a true family enterprise… However, they decided to think about allowing Nate back in if Mamie disclosed Tucker McCall’s genuine intentions after learning that he had been working with her.

Everything was going smoothly until Lily received word that a brush fire had broken out close to Mattie’s school. She then left the area to be with her daughter during the distressing event. Regretfully, she arrived home in March 2024 to find Daniel enjoying breakfast with Heather and Lucy, a happy family moment! When she finally got to spend some time alone with Daniel, she was shocked to hear him admit that they had slept together and that they had become closer while she was gone!
