Although Kate has been a producer on Emmerdale since 2018, she was previously involved in some of Corrie’s most iconic plots, including as Hayley’s death, Tina’s murderer, and the appearance of serial killer Pat Phelan.

“I’ve had a great time working on Emmerdale, and I feel so proud to be a part of a team that has accomplished so much over the last eight years,” the actress declared.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the program, and I have had the honor of collaborating with a group of incredibly brilliant, diligent, and endearing individuals.

“Emmerdale has given me so much more than I could have ever expected, both professionally and personally, and I will always be grateful for that.

“Thank you Emmerdale; I’ve had the best time ever.”

She went on, “Corrie has brightened my living room since I was a child, so it’s the ultimate ‘pinch me’ moment to be asked to produce a show I’ve loved for so long.”

From over the Pennines, I have loved the show and have always been amazed by the talent that is on show, both on and off screen.

It’s a really unique program, and I’ll do all in my power to make sure it survives and grows as we move into the next phase. My DNA is ingrained in Coronation Street, and I can’t wait to dive right in.

Kate was in charge of some incredibly popular stories when she was in Emmerdale, including the terrifying rule of Meena Jutla, the 2019 reappearance of Mandy Dingle after a 17-year hiatus, Maya’s torture and grooming of Jacob, and Lydia Dingle’s terrifying rape horror.

Kate has most recently published the tragic and heartbreaking account of Chas Dingle’s diagnosis with breast cancer, his decision to have a mastectomy, and her efforts to raise awareness of BRCA2 gene mutation carriers and how they may also have an impact on men who subsequently acquire the disease.

Her Corrie hiring comes amid recent struggles for the ITV serial opera.

Although it is still the most viewed soap opera in the nation, its ratings have dropped to less than five million, and for the first time in many years, the Christmas Day edition was not in the top 10.

Kate, who is wed to Michelle Hardwick of Emmerdale and the couple has two kids together, will start her new job next month.

He will answer to Huw Kennair-Jones, ITV Drama Commissioner, John Whiston, Managing Director for Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North, and Iain MacLeod, the recently recruited Executive Producer for Continuing Drama.

“Kate is a fantastic storyteller, and I know the show will be ambitious, exciting, and full of heart and humor under her direction,” Iain stated.

She is a perfect fit for the program and is completely Corrie. I am eager to collaborate with her once more and genuinely interested to see what the future chapter contains.

“It’s fantastic news that Kate has decided to take on the most exciting job in drama—running Coronation Street,” John Whiston continued.

She contributes a thorough knowledge of the genre, a passion for nuanced characters, and a preference for extremely large, captivating tales.

“She’ll do fantastically at Corrie, and I’m excited to watch the next development of the show under her confident direction.”

Throughout her tenure on the program, Emmerdale has garnered numerous esteemed accolades for performances, narrative, and production. These include the Best British Soap at the 2019 Soap Awards, Best Soap at the TV Choice Awards in 2022, and the Serial Drama Award at the National Television Awards in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.
