In forthcoming Coronation Street episodes, Ryan Connor’s (Ryan Prescott) demeanour drastically changes as he is affected by both the steroids he has started taking and the underlying trauma from his acid attack.

Ryan started using the narcotics soon after arriving home from Ireland. He has recently been interested in fitness and has been injecting himself with steroids in an effort to alter his physical look.

He also hopes that by doing this, his low self-confidence will improve.

In following episodes, it will become evident that Ryan’s mental state isn’t getting better, as Alya (Sair Khan) mentions to Carla (Alison King) that Ryan appeared restless and preoccupied during their lunch together.

Ryan enters his bedroom towards the end of the week carrying a needle to discover Carla making his bed.

When Carla leaves, he hits the wardrobe in rage, the steroids obviously having an impact. He tries to contain his emotions while hiding the needle in his hand.

Ryan almost passes out when returning from a run because of heart palpitations, but Gary (Mikey North) arrives just in time and urges him to take some deep breaths.

Gary watches Ryan’s energy drink and wonders whether his friend has taken anything else, but if Ryan lies, will Gary trust him?

Ryan Prescott noted that when the man returns from Ireland, he is “fully seated in that position of denial.”

He’s already persuaded himself that he’s getting back on his feet and that his recent interest in fitness will enable him to emerge from his shell and acquire the necessary confidence. It offers him something to concentrate on and diverts his attention from all the suffering he has through and the fact that he appears so different.
