Fans were shocked to learn that Jason was collaborating with Agent John Cates of the FBI when he returned to GENERAL HOSPITAL. He was acting in this manner because they had threatened to charge him with RICO. Even after it was eventually shown that he was genuinely shielding Carly from the accusations, several viewers were still unsure of what RICO charges were in the first place!
The RICO Act is a federal statute that was enacted in 1970 with the intention of reducing organized crime in the United States. RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations. State RICO statutes have been passed by many states, including New York, but on GH, the federal act would undoubtedly be enforced by the FBI.
Eight state and 27 federal offenses that are classified as “racketeering” are included in the RICO Act. These may consist of gambling, money laundering, drug trafficking, embezzlement, robbery, murder, and terrorism. In addition to forfeiting any money made during the activity, a person found guilty of racketeering faces a maximum term of 20 years in jail for each count.

The particular RICO charges that the FBI is pursuing against Carly are not yet clear from the soap opera, but they most likely have their roots in her taking over Sonny’s financial ventures while he was thought to be dead.
Thankfully, John has stated that as long as Jason keeps cooperating, the FBI is not interested in bringing Carly down. Hopefully, the RICO accusations against Carly will be dropped and forgotten about once Jason assists Anna and the FBI in dismantling the Pikeman group. Keep checking back!
