Who Was Stone Cates On GENERAL HOSPITAL?

Some viewers who are newer to the show are curious about Stone Cates and his relationship to the Port Charles community after hearing him mentioned on GENERAL HOSPITAL. John “Jagger” Cates’ younger brother Michael “Stone” Cates made his party debut by helping Karen Wexler when someone had accidentally put something in her drink. However, while Karen was stripping at Sonny Corinthos’ club, the gangster caught her eye and helped her develop a drug addiction. Jagger got back in touch with his younger brother, got married to Karen, and the two of them moved out of town. Stone shared a home with Sonny, who saw him as a family member.

To her uncle Mac Scorpio’s dismay, Stone started seeing Robin Scorpio, whom he felt was unsuitable for her. The pair made their first love after Stone informed Robin that he had tested negative for HIV. However, Stone was tested again after being ill once more and discovered he was HIV-positive. After Stone was shot, his blood got on Robin, who fled in a panic. He admitted that he had gotten HIV from a past lover who was a drug user when she found him in the motel where they had shared a passionate kiss.

When Alan Quartermaine performed more tests, Stone developed advanced AIDS while Robin’s test results were negative for HIV. While Mac was originally incensed at Alan for putting the young guy on medication therapy, he eventually grew to care for Stone and even saved his life after a seizure. Regretfully, Robin discovered she was HIV-positive after getting tested once more.

Stone was being cared for by Robin at Sonny’s apartment as his condition deteriorated, and just before his death, his vision was failing. But before he passed away, he asked Robin to stand by the window so he could see her one last time in the light. As part of Stone’s bucket list, Sonny, Brenda Barrett, and Robin had him cremated and threw his ashes over the bridge where he had done bungee jumping.

After losing his wife Lily a year following Stone’s passing, Sonny gave General Hospital her estate in order to establish the Stone Cates Memorial AIDS Wing. After Jason Morgan and Stone, he also gave his son Morgan Stone Corinthos as a name. Jagger named his son Stone as well.

When Dr. Lisa Niles abducted Robin in 2010, she was imprisoned in a well where she saw a vision of Stone, who urged her to fight for her life and never give up. Then, in 2017, Sonny was motivated to persevere and live after seeing a vision of Stone following his attack and subsequent death. When Jagger returned to Port Charles in 2024 as an FBI agent, Stone’s name came up during their argument over the past.
